BFT Gate Motor & Opener in North Hollywood: What to Know First

BFT gate motor and opener repair in North Hollywood is what we do on a regular basis, and most BFT jobs are diagnosed and completed in a single visit. The honest price posture: a BFT control board replacement typically runs $450 to $750 installed, a full motor swap $850 to $1,400 depending on the model, and we quote it before we turn a single bolt. You’re on this page because a BFT opener is acting up, and you want a straight answer, not a sales pitch. Call (925) 693-7978 and you’ll get Victor or one of our techs, not a phone tree.

How BFT Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • BFT Phobos and Deimos capacitor failures in hot weather. The Phobos N and Deimos BT lines use AC motors with a start capacitor that North Hollywood summers punish hard. When the capacitor weakens, the gate will hum, shudder, and stall halfway through its travel, then work fine again at night when it cools off. We see this pattern constantly in NoHo between June and October. We replace the capacitor with one rated for the load, check the motor windings while we’re in there, and the gate closes smooth again.
  • BFT Rigel 5 control board relay burnout after a power flicker. DWP grid events are rough on the Rigel series. A brownout can weld relay contacts closed, which leaves the gate motor running against the stop and burns it out if the thermal switch doesn’t catch it first. The fix is a board swap, but the real answer is adding a surge suppressor on the input side, which BFT’s factory wiring diagram doesn’t emphasize as much as it should for this climate.
  • Limit switch drift on BFT Aries and Deimos sliding operators. BFT’s magnetic limit switches are reliable until the bracket loosens from vibration, and then the gate overruns by six inches or stops short of the post. We see this on decomposed granite driveways in the Valley because the track picks up more vibration than a concrete pad installation. We re-align the limits, Loctite the brackets, and re-learn the travel.
  • Photocell misalignment from shifting driveways. BFT safety beams get knocked out of alignment by minor ground settling, and a misaligned beam tells the board to refuse to close. On BFT systems, the fault reads as a blinking red LED on the board, which owners sometimes mistake for a dead motor. We re-aim the photocells, check the wiring at the junction box, and the problem clears. It’s a twenty-minute fix that other companies sometimes bill as a motor replacement.
  • BFT EOS 120V to 24V transformer failures on older installs. Homes in North Hollywood built in the 1980s and 1990s often had BFT EOS operators installed, and those transformers sit inside the housing in 120-degree heat. When the transformer goes, the control board goes dark. We carry replacements and can usually have the gate running in under an hour.

Our BFT Gate Motor & Opener Process

Here’s how a BFT service call goes at Ironworks Gate Co., from the first ring to the gate opening and closing on its own:

  1. 1
You call, a person answers. You tell us the symptom: gate won’t open, opens halfway, reverses on nothing, grinds, or just sits there. We ask about the model if you know it, and we schedule a window we actually keep.
  2. 2
We diagnose before we unbolt anything. Our tech checks the board LEDs, the capacitor, the limits, the photocells, and the motor draw. On a BFT, the blink codes on the Rigel and Phobos boards tell us most of the story if you know how to read them, which we do.
  3. 3
We tell you what it needs, and what it doesn’t. If the fix is a $40 capacitor or a re-aimed safety beam, that’s what we tell you. We don’t sell parts that don’t need replacing. That’s been Victor’s rule since 1984, and it’s the rule for every tech on the truck.
  4. 4
Parts go in with OEM or quality aftermarket, whichever serves you better. For BFT boards and safety components, we use BFT parts when available. For transformers, capacitors, and batteries, we use industrial-quality equivalents that cost less and carry the same warranty. We never install a part that voids your remaining BFT warranty.
  5. 5
We test the full travel cycle ten times over. Open, close, mid-travel reverse, photocell interruption, manual release, and force load. The gate has to behave on the tenth cycle exactly like the first.
  6. 6
We clean up and hand you the guarantee. Every BFT repair at Ironworks is covered by our written 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we make it right. No paperwork, no arguing.

What BFT Gate Motor & Opener Costs in North Hollywood

Straight numbers, because you deserve them before you commit:

  • Diagnostic service call: $89, which rolls into the repair if you proceed.
  • Capacitor or fuse replacement: $120 to $180 installed.
  • Photocell re-alignment or replacement: $95 to $160.
  • Limit switch adjustment or replacement: $110 to $190.
  • BFT control board replacement (Rigel 5, Phobos): $450 to $750 installed.
  • Complete motor replacement (BFT Aries, Deimos, Phobos): $850 to $1,400 installed.

What moves the price: whether the operator is a slide or swing model, the age of the unit, and how much of the original wiring is still sound. We quote the full price before any work starts, and that price is the price. Call (925) 693-7978 for a free estimate on your specific BFT setup.

Why North Hollywood Homeowners Call Ironworks Gate Co. for BFT Work

Victor Salinas grew up in the Lankershim Arts District, learned welding and fabrication at LA Trade-Tech downtown, and came straight back to the Valley. He has spent four decades on gate systems in this city, and the BFT units installed across North Hollywood have been on his service route since the earliest EOS operators started showing up on driveways in the 1990s. We are an independent BFT service provider, not an authorized dealer, which means we make the repair decision that’s right for your gate, not the decision that protects a brand relationship. The 90-Day Done Right Promise backs every job in writing. And because we are trained across nine opener brands, if the answer on your BFT is that replacement makes more sense than repair, we can give you an honest comparison against LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, or DoorKing from actual hands-on experience, not a catalog.
