How Ironworks Gate Co. Came to North Hollywood

We opened our doors in North Hollywood in 2013, but the decision to bring Ironworks Gate Co. here started with something we kept seeing across the Valley. Homeowners with beautiful older properties, ornate driveway gates that had been swinging fine for decades, suddenly told their only option was full replacement. We’d hear it on Magnolia Boulevard, over in Toluca Woods, up near the NoHo Arts District. Same story every time. A hinge wore out, a motor acted up, and some technician who didn’t want to touch the metal quoted them a price for a whole new gate when what they actually needed was a welder and an hour of honest work.

Victor Salinas remembers the exact job that solidified why this branch needed to exist. A homeowner near Oxnard Street had a wrought iron gate that wouldn’t close square. Three companies came out. Three quotes for replacement. Victor looked at it and saw what the others missed: the post had shifted, and the hinge geometry was off. No new gate required. He fixed the post, reset the hinges, and that gate closed true again. The homeowner stood there shaking her head, not because it was fixed, but because nobody had offered to fix it before.

That’s what we promised ourselves when we opened this branch: North Hollywood deserves gate people who start with repair, not replacement. People who can work with the metal instead of against it.

Victor Salinas’s Personal Connection to the Gate Repair Trade

Victor came into this work the old way, through the steel itself. When he was younger, he spent time around a shop where metal was shaped by hand. He remembers the smell of hot steel and flux, the way slag chips pop off a cooling weld, the particular sound a good hinge makes when it’s set right: a clean, low thunk with no rattle. Most people walk past a driveway gate and never think about it. Victor has never been able to walk past one without glancing at the hinge pins, checking how the gate hangs, noticing whether the operator chain has the right amount of give.

What drew him to this trade wasn’t the gate itself. It was what a gate means to the person behind it. A gate is the first thing you touch when you come home and the last thing you see when you leave. When it doesn’t work, your whole day starts wrong. When it drags across the concrete, you hear it every single time. Victor got into this work because he liked the idea of fixing something people use every day and never having to think about again. That’s the satisfaction, he says. Not the weld. The silence after the weld, when the gate swings smooth and the homeowner just looks at it and feels better.

He’s spent more than a decade doing this work across the San Fernando Valley. He’s been the one on the ground in Burbank with a seized hinge pin, the one in Studio City untangling a chain drive, the one in Sun Valley explaining to a homeowner why their keypad stopped talking to the operator. What he’s learned in all that time is simple: most gate problems are small. They just need someone who cares enough to look closely and fix the actual problem instead of selling around it.

If he weren’t doing this, Victor thinks he’d probably still be working with his hands somewhere. Building, fixing, taking things apart to understand them. But gates are where he stayed because every job is a little different, and every job ends with something that either works or doesn’t. He likes that clarity. He likes knowing that when he leaves a house, the gate either closes right or it doesn’t, and he doesn’t leave until it does.

Meet Victor Salinas - The Person Behind Every Job

Victor Salinas is the Owner and Founder of Ironworks Gate Co. in North Hollywood. He’s a state-licensed gate technician with more than a decade of hands-on experience working on driveway and estate gates across the Valley, from Burbank to Glendale to Van Nuys. His expertise covers the full range of gate work: welding and metal fabrication, hinge and post repair, gate opener installation and service, keypad and access control systems, and safety edge replacement.

What sets Victor apart from a franchise technician who shows up with a van and a script is that Victor actually does the work. He’s not reading from a diagnostic flow chart. He’s looking at your gate the way a machinist looks at a mechanism, understanding how it was made, why it’s failing, and what it needs to run right for another decade.

The personal detail that tells you the most about Victor: he can’t leave something half-fixed. It’s not in him. If he sees a hinge that’s starting to bind while he’s there for an opener, he’ll mention it. He’ll show you. He’ll tell you what it means and what it costs to address. He treats every gate in North Hollywood like it’s hanging on his own house. That’s not a slogan. It’s just how he’s wired.

Our Promise to North Hollywood Homeowners

When we opened this branch, we wrote down the kind of company we wanted to be. Not for the website. For ourselves. The list was short and it hasn’t changed.

First: honest pricing. We quote a price before we start, and the price doesn’t change unless you ask us to do something new. No surprises on the bill. We say that a lot because it matters. The homeowner on Oxnard Street didn’t need a new gate, and we told her so. That’s how we work.

Second: proper parts and proper repairs. We don’t bandage a gate to make it through the season. We fix what’s wrong so you don’t have to call us back. And we use quality components, the kind meant to last. Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing: names that have been doing this for years, parts we trust.

Third: we stand behind everything we do. If it’s not right, we come back. No paperwork, no arguing, no explaining yourself three times to three different people. The Keystone Standard, applied to gates: 90 days, in writing.

Our Credentials

When you hire someone to work on your property, you’re trusting them with your home, your family, and your security. Here’s what we bring to every job:

  • State-licensed - Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license their state requires. No exceptions.
  • Insured and bonded - We carry the coverage our customers deserve, so you’re protected while work happens on your property.
  • Local experience - We’ve been serving North Hollywood and the surrounding Valley communities for years. We know the gates, the weather, and the way Salt air doesn’t reach here but sun damage does.
  • Strong local reputation - Our work comes mostly from referrals. A neighbor tells a neighbor. That’s the kind of reputation you earn one gate at a time.

Why does any of this matter to you? Because a license means accountability. Insurance means a mistake doesn’t become your problem. Local experience means we understand what a sun-baked gate track in Burbank does differently than a shaded one in Los Feliz. And a referral-based reputation means the last customer matters as much as the next one. That’s the only way this works long-term.

Rooted in North Hollywood

We work in the same neighborhoods where we live. We know that Lankershim backs up in the late afternoon, that Magnolia has its own rhythm, and that the gates in the hills above Studio City face wind loads that flatland gates never see. We’ve fixed gates in Burbank’s Magnolia Park, in Glendale’s hills, in Van Nuys and Sun Valley and Tujunga. We’re not a company that parachutes in from somewhere else. We’re your neighbors, and when we fix a gate in North Hollywood, we’ll probably drive past it a hundred times in the next year. We want it to keep looking right.

Ironworks Gate Co. is built on an old idea: a century ago, every town had an ironworks, and the gates it made are still swinging. That’s the standard we work toward. Forged to swing true.
